Stay clear of any fundraising idea that in kind donations for nonprofits requires a lot of upfront money to purchase a product or service to sell. These types of events typically only gain a 20%-40% profit, meaning a lot of work and time for little result. The most profitable method of raising money for a sport team is with do-it-yourself (DIY) ideas.

Raffle tickets usually make for a good fundraising event because you only have to come up with the cost of one item to raffle. The local community might even have a business that will be willing to donate the raffle item. The rest is legwork for the group to sell the tickets.

If you can not find an item that is cheap enough to gain a substantial profit, think about the resources you have on hand- members of the sport group. It is very easy and cheap to organize an auction for the members of the sport group to provide a service; for example, bidding on a date, bidding on lawn service, bidding on a babysitter, etc..
